Cadetship Overview

At the Hub we've learnt that talented young people are capable of extraordinary things. We've seen that learning is non-linear: a smart, self-motivated 15-year-old with good support & the right opportunities can be capable of learning university-level content and doing professional-level work.

This Cadetship is about exactly that: non-linear learning for students with a natural flair for visual art, helping them progress along the exciting vocational pathway that is digital design.

Design Cadets learn hands-on skills through classes and workshops taught by experts and they get to demonstrate those skills by working on creatively-challenging projects. They get professional exposure through work experience placements with Hub partners and earn by teaching others what they’ve learned.

How it is delivered

The program revolves around a series of creative assignments in which Cadets receive a client brief and must answer to that brief by producing a digital artefact. These artefacts include things like social media graphics, corporate branding and website designs - these are all of high value to real clients .

Assignments are backed up with weekly Cadet sessions at the Peregian Digital Hub, some in the form of specialist workshops led by industry experts. In the weeks/weekends between the in-person sessions, Cadets work from home on their assignments with support from mentors and peers online via the same collaboration tools that world class companies use.
